BMW of Riverside 200 For Youth Golf Tournament

24th Annual Golf Tournament

The 200 For Youth Tournament began in 1981 with a participation fee of $200. The original organizing committee included Fred Pahl, Bruce Bennett, Fred Bryant, Doug Shackleton, Don Worley, Don Porterfield, Nick Goldware, John Babcock and a few others ... all Kiwanians. Don Worley got most of the entrants to play and the first year we had 75 entries. In those days we didn’t have sponsors so we had to absorb all the costs from the tournament fees. Our first year profit was approximately $5,000 which was split between the YMCA and the Kiwanis Club of Riverside.

Your continued support for this annual event has provided funds for youth programs which have helped youngsters meet their potential. Thank You! We look forward to seeing you again this year.

Last year’s watch was an Oyster Blue Submariner Rolex wristwatch with a retail value of $6,000.00!

Tournament Proceeds Benefit The Riverside Community

The 200 For Youth Golf Tournament is a joint event hosted by the YMCA of Riverside City and County and the Kiwanis Club of Riverside. Proceeds from the Tournament go towards supporting the various programs of the YMCA and our Kiwanis Club.

This year we will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of The 200 For Youth Golf Tournament. This special tournament is limited to 144 players and is recognized throughout the Inland Empire as a premier community event.  Known for its great golf play, great  prizes, including a Rolex Watch, and special call  to service in our community. We greatly appreciate your support the past 24 years. Thank you for participating!

The YMCA of Riverside City and County

The "200 For Youth" Golf Tournament has supported the YMCA of Riverside City & County in a variety of ways over the years. We currently use the proceeds to provide after school programs mainly targeted to middle school age youth. The first program is our "Challenges of Youth" which is a teen pregnancy prevention program for boys at Chemawa, Central and Sierra Middle Schools. We are part of a collaborative partnership with the YWCA serving as the lead agency in a program funded partially through a grant from the State of California, but also has a 36% match by our YMCA.

The second program is "Prime Time" and is a collaborative involving Riverside Unified School District, Alvord Unified School District and about twelve other organizations. This program will serve ten middle schools and seven elementary schools this school year and involve over 3,000 children in meaningful after school activities. A large part of our YMCA involvement focuses on childhood obesity and providing programs that emphasize nutrition, health, and exercise as a means to combat the rising tide of obesity among our young people. Our role in "Prime Time" involves both bringing children to our YMCA for activities and providing programs at each school site.

Both of these programs are geared toward at-risk youth and are provided free to all 3,000 participants. Without a variety of funding sources, including our "200 For Youth" Golf Tournament we would not be able to provide YMCA resources to these children.

Thanks for your loyal support to this tournament. We could not do what we do without your help.

Mark Malak, YMCA C.E.O.

The Kiwanis Factor

The Kiwanis Club of Riverside has been serving the Riverside community for over 80 years. It provides hundreds of hours of service to the community as well as providing financial support to many worthwhile projects. These projects include high school scholarships, the Kiwanis Invitational High School Basketball Tournament, the Boy Scouts of America, Meals on Wheels, UCR Athletics, the Riverside Community College Foundation and the YMCA.

In addition, the Kiwanis Club of Riverside has also adopted Longfellow Elementary School where we have assisted in the development of specific programs such as band, athletics, reading, the addition of another Head Start class and annual dental screenings for all students.

We are very proud of these programs and accomplishments. Your continued support of the "200 for Youth" Golf Tournament makes all of this possible.

Lew Vanderzyl,
Kiwanis Club President
